Thailand closes Burma refugee camp
The Thai authorities have forcibly closed a major camp for Burmese dissidents.
Observers say it is the biggest step yet in Thailand's campaign to shut all camps which house more than 120-thousand people who have fled Burma's military government. Troops and police watched as several hundred students and others were taken in trucks from the Maneeloy Holding Centre, about 100 kilometres west of Bangkok. Representatives of the dissident leaders and officials say some of those at the camp face forced repatriation to Burma.
The UN High Commissioner for Refugees has been working with the authorities on the camp closure.
