US President supports South Korea's approach to North Korea

The U-S President George W Bush says he supports South Korea's policy of engagement with the North.

North Asia correspondent Mark Simkin reports Mr Bush says he's had a frank and useful exchange with his South Korean counterpart Kim Dae Jung in Seoul.

Mr Bush upset many people in south Korea and the country's government when he referred to the communist north as part of an axis of evil. Speaking in Seoul today, Mr Bush avoided using that label, saying instead that he wants to have dialogue with the North and has no plans to invade the country. The US President expressed support for Kim Dae Jong's sunshine policy of increased engagement with North Korea. The two leaders met for 40 minutes, having what Mr Bush called a "very frank exchange of views". Mark Simkin Tokyo.
