Senior Cambodian police sacked over incident involving PM's nephew
Three senior Cambodian police officers have been sacked after allowing Prime Minister Hun Sen's nephew and other people involved in a shooting incident to escape.
The AFP news agency says the police officers were dismissed following a night-time shooting on December 16th, when two of Hun Sen's nephews, Hun Chea and Hun To, argued with another group over a woman. The agency says the dispute escalated and men in each party, including two of Hun To's bodyguards, exchanged gunfire, wounding one person and damaging two vehicles. Phnom Penh police interrogated several people involved in the shooting and arrested five, including Hun Chea, but not Hun To, who is still at large. Premier Hun Sen warned that other police officers who failed to do their job would meet a similar fate.
The prime minister stressed that everybody should be equal under the law, including his relatives and himself.
