Burning people's houses "unbelievable": Hun Sen
Cambodia's Prime Minister Hun Sen has rejected accusations from squatters that the Phnom Penh municipality burned their homes, as an "unbelievable story."
Two massive fires killed one person and left up to 20,000 homeless in Phnom Penh in late November, with local press quoting squatters as saying that at least one of the two blazes may have been started by "flaming torches" fired from a boat in the adjacent Bassac river.
The settlements housed mostly ethnic Vietnamese.
Both fires occured during a historic official visit by Vietnamese President Tran Duc Luong and prompted Vietnam to express "deep concern". In Hanoi diplomats said they were unconvinced the fires were an accident, suggesting they were the work of property speculators or critics of Vietnam's communist regime who deliberately wanted to send a message to Hanoi during Mr Luong's visit.
