India dismisses request for more evidence against Pakistani militants

India's Prime Minister has dismissed Pakistan's request for more evidence against suspected Islamic militants.

Edmond Roy reports:

"In a speech to the party faithful in the central Indian city of Lucknow, Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee dismissed Pakistan's request as unnecessary and meaningless. Claiming there was enouh evidence already about the involvement of Pakistan-based Islamic militant organisations in last month's attack against Indian Parliament, Mr Vajpayee said Pakistan should immediately extradict them to stand trial in India. His comments came as the Indian foreign minister Jaswan Singh met his pakitani counterpart Abdul Sattar in the Nepal capital, Kathmandu. Meanwhile the troop build up on the border between the two countries continues and several villages are being evacuated in preparation for a sustained military campaign."
