Thais demonstrate as Japanese PM arrives
Some one thousand Thai protesters demonstrated as Japanese prime minister Junichiro Koizumi arrived in Bangkok on the third leg of his 5 nation south east Asian trip.
The demonstrators were protesting against a Thai-Japanese project to build two coal-fired power plants in southern Thailand.
The protestors demanded greater transparency and claimed they did not want any power plants in their midst.
Earlier Friday, Thai prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra met with the protestors and promised to visit the sites of the proposed plants before making a decision on whether to go ahead with the construction.
