Japan attacks Australia over whaling

The Japanese government has launched a stinging attack on Australia's position on whaling.

As Tokyo correspondent Mark Simkin reports ... a Japanese official says the Australian public is being misled.

"In a three page press release a senior government official Masiyuke Kamatsu launches a vitriolic attack on Australia's opposition to whaling. Australia's position is that it's okay to kill millions of kangaroos each year, and at the same time criticise Japan for killing 440 Minke whales from an abundant population is simply an irrational, hypocritical double standard, he says. Mr Kamatsu argues that Japan is only killing the whales for research purposes. Mark Simkin Tokyo."
