Afghanistan promises to help China tackle separatist problem Afghanistan's interim foreign minister has promised to help China tackle a separatist campaign in the country's west. "Doctor Abdullah Abdullah was speaking in the Chinese capital after attending day-long talks in Beijing between the interim leader of the Afghan administration, Hamid Karzai, and Premier Zhu Rongji. Doctor Abdullah acknowledged Chinese estimates that more than 100 Chinese nationals supportive of the Muslim separatist group in western Xinjiang province had trained and fought alongside al Qaeda in Afghanistan. All known terrorists would be wiped from the country, he said, which meant that they would be tried locally, in an international court, or in line with Chinese requests, repatriated to their own country to face trial. 24/01/2002 12:02:53 PM | ABC Radio Australia News
