America warns Burma on nuclear reactor
The United States has called on Burma and Russia to ensure that a proposed joint project to build a nuclear reactor for the military-ruled state, includes extra security.
America's State Department reminded the two governments, which are proposing to build a reactor for research purposes, that extra care be taken to safeguard nuclear material following the September 11 terror attacks.
A U-S State Department spokesman, Richard Boucher, says safety and security are of paramount importance at any nuclear reactor.
On Tuesday, the United States warned Burma that it must honor its obligations under the Non-Proliferation Treaty, after Rangoon signalled it intended to build the reactor with Russian help.
