South Korea's top presidential economic aide engulfed in scandal
South Korea's top presidential aide on economic affairs has come under pressure to step down after admitting to his involvement in a major graft scandal.
The ruling Millennium Democratic Party has expressed regret over Lee Ki-Ho's involvement in the scandal, which centers on dubious ties between a jailed businessman and a relative of President Kim Dae-Jung. Lee has admitted that he introduced the president's nephew to a senior spy agency official. The nephew then used the official's influence to get help from government officials and police in searching for a boat laden with gold bullion.
The opposition Grand National Party has called for Lee Ki-Ho's resignation, but he says he has no intention to resign.
