New Afghan leader gets White House welcome

United States President George W. Bush says the United States will provide an additional 50 million dollars in a line of credit to support infrastructure projects in Afghanistan.

Mr Bush made the announcement after a meeting with Afghan interim leader, Hamid Karzai at the White House.

The President says the US strongly supports Mr Karzai's administration and the future of a broad-based government in Afghanistan which supports human rights.

The Afghan people have taken the first steps along this path by committing to rid their country of al-Qaeda terrorists and the remnants of Taliban regime who supported the terrorists. Yet even as the war against terrorism continues the world has also begun to help the Afghan people win the peace they deserve.
