China tells Iraq to cooperate with UN

China has called on Iraq to cooperate with the United Nations if it wants to see an end to the UN sanctions against Baghdad.

The call came in talks in Beijing between China's Vice Premier Qian Qichen and visiting Iraqi Deputy Prime Minister Tareq Aziz.

Mr Qian also said such cooperation could help avoid waht was termed "new and complicated situations" arising from a potential extension of the US-led war against terrorism to Iraq.

The Iraqi deputy prime minister also held talks with Premier Zhu Rongji and other senior Chinese leaders.
