Li Peng arrives in China
China's second in command, Li Peng, has arrived in the former Portuguese enclave of Macau for a two-day visit.
Mr Li was greeted on his arrival by Macau's chief executive, Edmund Ho, who invited him to visit, and other senior officials.
During his trip, Mr Li is scheduled to meet local community leaders and visit various tourist spots in the former Portuguese enclave which reverted to Chinese rule in December 1999.
Macau authorities stepped up security at various venues ahead of Mr Li's visit.
A group of Hong Kong political activists was planning to stage a demonstration over Mr Li's role in the 1989 military crackdown on pro-democracy protests in Beijing Tiananmen Square, but it was not clear whether they would be allowed to enter the territory.
