US President to address Japanese Parliament

The United States President, George W-Bush, will today address the Japanese parliament.

Tokyo correspondent Mark Simkin reports the address comes on the second day of Mr Bush's Asian tour:

"The American President will deliver a thirty minute address to the Japanese Diet, and it's expected he'll repeat earlier comments on the weak Japanese economy and regional security. Yesterday, after meeting Japanese Prime Minister, Junichiro Koizumi, Mr Bush kept up his tough line on North Korea: "History has given us a unique opportunity to defend freedom and we're going to seize the moment and do it." This afternoon, the president heads to south Korea, where those comments are likely to come in for sharp criticism.
