Police in China search for kidnapped Australian child

Police in the Chinese capital Beijing today resume a citywide search for a four-year-old Australian girl they believe has been kidnapped.

China correspondent Tom O'Byrne reports:

"Police and Australian embassy officials say four-year-old Sarah Zhu went missing around the time her mother Yang Liu went to collect her from a child care facility at one of Beijing's most famous universities. Her husband Zhu Xiao Yang is an Australian academic well known for work on poverty alleviation, and who is currently undertaking research at Beijing University. Although the abduction of foreign nationals is rare in China, and particularly children, societal pressure to have children and heirs means child abduction in China remains a big social problem."
