Sri Lankan gov't ready to go "anywhere" for peace talks
The Sri Lankan government says it is ready to travel anywhere chosen by peace broker Norway for face-to-face talks with Tamil Tiger rebels amid uncertainty over the venue for negotiations.
Foreign Minister Tyronne Fernando says the new government, which came to power promising peace talks with Tiger rebels, was waiting for Norway, which is acting as a peace facilitator, to come up with a venue.
He said the role of Norway as a facilitator was "very important" to arrange the talks aimed at ending decades of ethnic bloodshed which has claimed the lives of over 60-thousand people. Norway is currently working towards arranging a ceasefire between the Sri Lankan government and the Tamil Tiger guerrillas to formalise the unilateral ceasefires they have been observing since Christmas.
