Earthquake hits northern Afghanistan

Five people are reported killed and dozens injured after a large earthquake hit northern Afghanistan.

Up to 30 buildings collapsed or were badly damaged in the quake as Jonathan Harley reports:

"The earthquake which read six point seven on the Richter's scale had its epicentre in Northern Afghanistan's Hindu Kush mountain range and lasted four and a half minutes. It was felt as far south as the Indian capital New Delhi. In the Afghan capital, Kabul, residents fled into streets in panic as buildings shook and a cloud of dust rose above the city. The extent of the damage is still not clear, especially among remote villages which are scattered throughout the rugged Hindi Kush. Many are inaccessible through the bitter winter months as roads and tracks are blocked off by snow."
