Malaysia to deport thousands of illegals

Malaysia is escalating its crackdown on illegal immigrants, with more than 15-thousand Indonesians arrested within two months and plans to deport most of them.

Thousands of squatter homes are also being demolished .. as South-East Asia correspondent Geoff Thompson reports.

Malaysia's Government has said it plans to deport 10-thousand Indonesians every month as an aggressive crackdown on illegal immigrants continues. The eastern state of Sabah has been the latest target of police raids, with more than four-and-a-half thousand, mostly Filipino illegal immigrants, arrested and screened in the last two weeks. More than seven-thousand squatter homes have been demolished on Sabah alone. Malaysia is home to 750-thousand legal foreign workers, but hundreds of thousands are illegal...most of them are from Indonesia.
