Workers' unrest in China's North-east Authorities in China's north-east are bracing for another day of unprecedented industrial unrest. In the city of Liaoyang, officials sent in soldiers and police to evict workers who'd taken over government offices. They'd been protesting the arrest earlier in the week of several worker leaders from a bankrupt metals factory which at one stage last week led to 30-thousand people on the streets. The demonstration in Liaoyang follows two weeks of sit-in protests by up to 50-thousand laid-off oil woekrs at the Daqing oilfields in neighbouring Heilongjiang province. While worker protests in China have become increasingly common in recent years, they rarely attract such large numbers and get reported before being shut down.
