Hopes rise in Sri Lanka that peace process is gaining momentum

In Sri Lanka, hopes are rising that the fledgling peace process is gaining new momentum with the return to the country of a top Tamil Tiger negotiator.

As Simi Chakrabarti reports, the move is being seen as highly significant.

CART:

Anton Balasingham, the Tamil Tiger's chief negotiator has made a dramatic return to Sri Lanka's rebel held area in the north. Rather than coming through the capital Colombo, the 64 year old power-broker arrived by special sea plane from the nearby Maldives. He's scheduled to brainstorm with Tamil Tiger supremo, Vallupalai Prabhakaran, ahead of his meeting with Norwegian peace negotiators. Mr Balasingham is then expected to agree on an agenda for formal talks with the Sri Lankan government.
