India and China agree that two countries could gain by boosting econom

India's Foreign Minister, Jaswant Singh, and Chinese Premier, Zhu Rongji, has agreed that the two countries could gain a great deal by boosting economic cooperation.

Mr Singh, who's visiting Beijing said the level of trade and economic exchanges between the two countries does not match the great potential both sides have.

The total trade volume between the two Asian giants stands at less than three billion dollars annually, a tiny fraction of China's total foreign trade of 510 billion dollars last year.

Mr Zhu told Mr Singh that both China and India are witnessing rapid development as they promote reform of their respective economies.

Bilateral relations between the two countries have improved recently, after a setback caused by Indian nuclear tests in 1998.
