Sri Lanka's Tamil Tigers meet peace brokers ahead of talks
Top Tamil Tiger guerrillas have reportedly opened discussions with Norwegian peace brokers to prepare for historic talks in Thailand with the Sri Lankan government.
Norway's ambassador to Sri Lanka, Jon Westborg, travelled to an area of the island's north held by the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam to meet their chief negotiator, Anton Balasingham.
The rebel's clandestine radio says their talks are aimed at preparing the ground for direct talks with the Sri Lankan government next month.
Rebel radio also said Norway's Deputy Foreign Minister Vidar Helgesen will travel to the rebel-held Wanni region this month for talks with Tiger supremo, Velupillai Prabhakaran.
