South Korea president hails breakthrough with North Korea
South Korea's President Kim Dae-jung, has hailed a breakthrough with North Korea on restarting dialogue with the South and the United States.
However, he says his government will have to work hard to ensure the North sticks to the deal.
Mr Kim told his cabinet the weekend agreement between North and South Korea was a fortunate event for peace on the Korean peninsula.
The two Koreas remain technically at war because the 1950-53 Korean War ended in an armed truce that has not been replaced with a peace treaty.
President Kim says North-South plans announced on Saturday to restart family reunions, economic talks and discussions on restoring rail and road links, largely reconfirmed past agreements, but are still significant.
