At least 26 Maoist rebels have been killed by security force in Nepal
At least 26 Maoist rebels have been killed by security forces in Nepal. The A-F-P newsagency reported seventeen rebels were shot dead in Murkutti, 390 kilometres west of Kathmandu on Sunday.
Some of the dead were allegedly involved in an attack on Friday which left at least 164 people dead in the southwestern Dang district, and was the deadliest in the six-year Maoist rebellion.
The army recovered weapons as well as ammunition and home-made bombs from the guerrillas.
The defence ministry said seven other rebels were killed in different districts on Sunday and two more on Saturday.
The rebels have been fighting for a communist republic in Nepal since 1996, and the uprising has so far claimed nearly 3,000 lives.
