Eleven Maoists shot dead in Nepal

At least 11 Maoists have been shot dead in clashes with security forces in Nepal.

A Nepali Defence Ministry official says the Maoists were shot dead when the two sides clashed in five districts of Nepal.

Police also reported Maoist rebels had killed one civilian and injured two policemen in a bomb attack on a police station.

The rebels have been fighting for a communist republic in Nepal since 1996.
