Falungong supporter arrested in Chinese capital
In the Chinese capital Beijing, a follower of the outlawed Falungong spiritual group has been arrested in Tiananmen Square.
Eyewitnesses say the Chinese woman was tackled by police and taken away to a waiting van after she ran through the square carrying a yellow banner.
The arrest came on the third anniversary of a protest by about 10,000 Falungong practitioners a few hundred metres from Tiananmen Square, which prompted Chinese authorities to outlaw the group.
Since then, practitioners have marked the date with sporadic protests on the square and security was stepped up in central Beijing ahead of this year's anniversary.
Since the banning of the movement, rights organisations estimate that hundreds of Falungong practitioners have been given jail terms and tens of thousands sent to labour camps without trial.
The group claims that about 400 members have died due to police abuse since the ban.
