Kopassus members charged with murder of Papuan independence leader
Indonesia's military police have charged three members of an elite army unit with the murder last year of Papuan independence leader Theys Eluay.
The Jakarta Post quoted a senior Indonesian military police officer as saying the three were members of the feared Kopassus special forces.
The officer said the suspects - who face a maximum 15 years in jail - had also been accused of subordination because there had never been any order from their superiors to kill Eluay.
The independence leader was found murdered on November 11. He had been abducted the previous evening by an unidentified group as he drove home from a celebration hosted by a Kopassus unit in Jayapura.
