Singapore and Taiwan differ over cause of airliner crash
A dispute has developed between Singapore and Taiwan over the causes of a Singapore Airlines crash in Taipei.
The crash was Singapore Airline's first fatal accident killing, 83 of 179 people aboard.
In their final report, Taiwanese officials listed pilot error and stormy weather as probable reasons why the Los Angeles-bound Flight crashed as it took off from a partially closed runway during a typhoon in October 2000. Singapore released its own report and put some of the blame on shortfalls at the airport in Taipei.
Taiwan's Civil Aeronautics Administration accused Singapore Airlines and the state's transportation ministry of giving erroneous information to confuse the public.
