Rampant corruption threatens Vietnamese Communist Party
The head of Vietnam's ruling Communist Party says rampant corruption is the number one issue in elections to be held later this month, and no-one will be spared punishment.
Talking to voters in his Ba Dinh constituency in Hanoi on Thursday, Mr Manh says the party's anti-corruption drive must be enforced at every level of society.
The English-language Vietnam News quotes him as saying that corruption is the concern most voters want addressed at the polls later this month for a new 500-member National Assembly.
Mr Manh says severe punishments are needed in the fight against corruption, regardless of the positions held by the people involved.
Increasingly widespread corruption and conspicuous wealth of senior officials has become a major cause for dissatisfaction in communist-ruled Vietnam.
