Indonesian police hold Tommy Suharto's lawyer
Indonesian police have detained a lawyer for former President Suharto's son, Tommy, in connection with allegations that witnesses were bribed to lie during his murder trial.
A witness in the trial told investigators that lawyer Elza Syarief had paid him two million rupiah to falsely say that a murder weapon found in a Jakarta apartment had no connection with the former businessman.
The head of the investigation team told journalists the lawyer was being questioned over whether she might have violated a statute related to giving false testimony and another on bribery -- each carrying a maximum penalty of seven years in prison.
Tommy Suharto has been on trial since March on charges he masterminded the murder of a judge who had earlier sentenced him to jail for corruption..
