Cambodia to take back nationals jailed in US

Cambodia says it will accept the repatriation of more than two thousand Cambodian convicted criminals held in American jails.

The announcement came in a radio address by Prime Minister Hun Sen.

The criminals, jailed for offences varying from overstaying U.S. entry visas to gangland violence, would be the first deported from the United States under a deal signed with Cambodia in March.

The agreement does not extend to Cambodian natives who hold American citizenship.

U.S. authorities will be responsible for paying the convicts' airfares and giving some financial assistance for them to start a new life in Cambodia.
