France calls on Pakistan to protect its citizens

French President Jacques Chirac has condemned a bomb attack in Pakistan's volatile southern city of Karachi which claimed the lives of 11 French naval construction workers and three Pakistanis.

Mr Chirac has described the attack as despicable, and urged Pakistan to find and punish those responsible.

He's also called on Pakistan to improve security measures for the French community. Remaining French naval workers are now being evacuated from the city.

France's anti-terrorist authority and counter intelligence service are also investigating the blast which they believe may have been the work of al-Quaeda terrorists.
