Nepali government rejects rebel ceasefire

Nepal's Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba rejected a one-month ceasefire declared by communist rebels, saying they can't be trusted.

The Nepali leader is currently in the United States, where he's been seeking increased American support for his government's increasingly bloody campaign against the Maoist insurgents.

He's told the American television network CNN that the government felt betrayed by the rebels and no progress could be made unless they renounced violence and laid down their weapons.

The Maoists' ceasefire offer came after government forces said they had killed hundreds of rebels in a big offensive in the west of the country..
