Former Indonesian President files defamation complaint

Former Indonesian president Abdurrahman Wahid has filed a defamation complaint against current assembly speaker Amien Rais.

Police say the base of the complaint is "slanderous public accusations" made by Rais against Wahid during a seminar at a convention center in Jakarta earlier this month.

Lawyers claim that Rais publicly stated that while Wahid was president Wahid he demanded a million dollar bribe from an official at the finance ministry.

Rais is one of the key politicians who ousted Wahid from his presidency last July.
