Hill tribe refugees in Cambodia to resettle in the United States
More than 900 hilltribe refugees who fled unrest in Vietnam to neighbouring Cambodia will be resettled in the United States before the end of the month.
Officials say hundreds of hilltribe refugees have crossed into Cambodia in the past year following a military crackdown by Hanoi on ethnic minority demonstrations for land rights and religious freedom in Vietnam's Central Highlands.
Around 905 refugees were moved to Phnom Penh last month from U.N. camps near the Vietnamese border in preparation for their departure to the U.S. where they were granted asylum.
U.S. Ambassador to Cambodia Kent Wiedemann says the refugees will leave Phnom Penh on commercial and chartered flights in the coming two weeks.
