Nepal appeals to Britain for extra military support
Britain says it will continue to look at improving the support it gives to the government of Nepal, describing the security relationship between the two countries as 'excellent.'
Nepal's Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has been in London holding talks with senior British officials, including Prime Minister Tony Blair, on the intensifying Maoist insurgency in the Himalayan kingdom.
The Nepali leader has been asking for weapons and military training, as well as financial aid to tackle poverty and improve education.
But a British spokeswoman refused to be drawn on what additional concrete support to Nepal would be considered by the British government.
Prime Minister Deuba met U.S. President George W. Bush in Washington last week and won a pledge of almost 40 million Australian dollars to help Nepal end the conflict that has claimed more than four-thousand lives.
