Nepal's ruling party suspends Prime Minister over election call

Nepal's ruling Congress party has suspended Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba from its ranks, angered by his move to dissolve parliament.

Earlier this week, Mr Deuba asked King Gyanendra to disband parliament and call an early election, after Congress members objected to a plan to extend a state of emergency to tackle a Maoist insurgency in which thousands have died.

The vote is set for November.

The prime minsiter is expected to make a televised address to the nation later today.
