Pro-whalers says IWC 'unworkable'

There are predictions that the International Whaling Commission is close to collapse.

Mark Simkin reports many pro-whaling nations at the Commission's latest meeting in Japan have said they believe the organisation is now unworkable.

There are deep divisions between anti and pro-whaling nations and the International Whaling Commission has been bogged down in debate with very littel progress on key issues. In fact, this meeting has achiieved virtually nothing. Pro-whaling countries are becoming increasingly frustrated and there's now talk that they will leave the IWC and set up an alternative international body that would allow them to resume commercial whaling outside the IWC's control.
