Whaling Commission wraps up after another day of deadlock and division

The International Whaling Commission meeting in Japan is wrapping up after another day of deadlock and division.

Tokyo correspondent Mark Simkin reports from Shimonoseki.

Once again Japan and its Caribbean allies refused to renew a special whaling permit for the native people of Siberia and Alaska. America's Commissioner described it as the most unjust and unfair decision in the history of the IWC because it would deprive a subsistance people of food. A compromise proposal was also defeated after Japan said it would only support the plan if its coastal communities were allowed to catch more whales. The meeting will wrap up shortly.
