Minister says political situation in East Timor is stable
A petroleum industry conference in Australia has been assured the political situation in East Timor is stable.
East Timor's Minister for Political Affairs, Peter Galbraith, made the comments at the Australian Petroleum Production and Exploration Association's conference in the southern city of Hobart.
Mr Galbraith says businesses can now be confident of investing money into mining the rich gas and petroleum resources in the Timor Sea.
But, Mr Galbraith has told the conference, a new treaty needs to be negotiated between East Timor and Australia before work can begin.
