Sri Lanka reportedly receives Czech arms supplies

A report from Colombo says Sri Lankan security forces are set to receive a consignment of multi-barrel rocket launchers and tanks from the Czech Republic to boost the fire power against Tamil rebels,.

The Sunday Island newspaper said the Czech shipment would be one of the largest to Sri Lankan forces in recent times.

Sri Lanka secured emergency supplies in May last year from the Czech Republic after Tamil Tiger guerrillas mounted their bloodiest offensive against government forces in the northern peninsula of Jaffna.

Sri Lankan security forces are currently observing a truce till Tuesday morning to mark the traditional new year.
