Sri Lanka says wounded American journalist likely to escape charges
Sri Lanka says it's unlikely to prosecute an injured American journalist over her contacts with the banned Tamil Tiger separatist movement.
Marie Colvin, an award-winning reporter with Britain's Sunday Times, sustained shrapnel wounds to her head, chest and arm while trying to enter a government-held town on Monday after spending two weeks in rebel-held areas.
She was discovered by Sri Lankan troops, and later flown by army helicopter to the capital, Colombo, for treatment.
Her condition is now said to be stable. The government accuses Colvin of overstaying her visa; travelling to a war zone without permission; and interacting with a banned rebel organisation....but says charges are unlikely to be laid.
