11 people killed in Indian electoral violence
At least 11 people have been killed in electoral violence during the first county polls to be held in 22 years in the troubled eastern Indian state of Bihar.
The Press Trust of India ssays 15 people had been killed in street fighting during the third of the six-phase county polls in India's second most populous state. The latest violence brings to 45 the official number of people killed since the first phase of polling began earlier this month. A police spokesman in the state capital of Patna says one-thousand people had been arrested for stealing ballot boxes or stuffing bogus votes during the day-long elections that took place across 15-hundred village counties.
The county polls aim to set up a rural administration that will function as an arm of the state government in Patna.
