Indonesian attorney general dies in Saudi Arabia

Indonesia's Attorney General Baharuddin Lopa has died in Saudi Arabia.

Confirmation of Mr Lopa's death has been given on Indonesian television by Foreign Minister Alwi Shihab, who said his body would be returned to Jakarta on Wednesday.

Mr Shihab gave no information as to the cause of death.

However, a presidential spokesman had earlier said that Mr Lopa was being treated for a heart problems in hospital in the Saudi capital Riyadh, and that his duties had been taken over by his deputy, Suparman.

It was not clear what Mr Lopa was doing in Saudi Arabia.

Baharuddin Lopa was appointed by President Abdurrahman Wahid in a cabinet reshuffle on June-the-first.

He had reopened a number of high-profile corruption cases that his predecessor had closed, and had said he was seeking new ways to bring former president Suharto to court on corruption charges.
