Indonesia's acting attorney general vows to resist political pressure

Indonesia's acting attorney general has vowed not to yield to political pressures while attempting to prosecute corruption in high places, saying everbody is equal before the law.

Mr Suparman told journalists in Jakarta he's ready to face the pressure of investigating politically-sensitive cases.

Mr Suparman is acting in the attorney general's job after the death of his superior Baharuddin Lopa, who died in Saudi Arabia earlier this week.

Described by the Indonesian media as a "legal crusader," Mr Lopa was also considered the first line of defence for President Abdurrahman Wahid, who is facing impeachment next month by a hostile parliament.
