North Korea threatens to end missile moratorium
North Korea has threatened to end a moratorium on missile test launches, describing Japan's recent test of a satellite launcher as a threat to peace.
A North Korean foreign ministry spokesman says Japan's rocket test last week is a bid to incite military confrontation.
In a statement, the spokesman warned that the development compelled North Korea to reconsider its moratorium on the satellite launch.
Pyongyang staged a test firing of a suspected ballistic missile carrier in 1998 that went over Japanese territory, but in recent months North Korea's leader Kim Jong-Il has reportedly told several foreign leaders there will be a moratorium until 2003.
Japan and North Korea have never normalised relations since the end of Japan's occupation of the Korean peninsula in 1945.
