Malaysia's stock exchange to re-open after shutting doors

Malaysia's stock exchange will reopen tomorrow after shutting its doors in an attempt to avoid plummeting share prices across the region.

Market volatility was matched by the intensity of new security concerns, as South East Asia correspondent Geoff Thompson reports:

Every open Asian share market plummeted today, while Malaysia and Thailand deferred the fallout by ordering their stock markets closed. Trading on Malaysia's and Thailand's exchanges is expected to resume tomorrow. Thailand's Prime Minister Taksin Shinawatra, has expressed hope that the attacks on the United States do not escalate into full scale warfare. About 100 members of a heavily armed Thai SWAT team has been deployed around the American embassy in Bangkok - the second largest US mission in the world. Malaysia's Prime Minister Mahathir condemned the attacks but expressed concern that retaliation by the United States would cost most lives and not solve any problems.
