Typhoon Lekima starts to disrupt life in Taiwan

Typhoon Lekima has hit Taiwan, triggering mudslides, shutting down airports and cutting off power to thousands of homes. Two fishermen drowned in rough seas and another is missing.

Lekima's centre is expected to linger over southern Taiwan for hours and deluge areas that are prone to killer landslides and flash flooding.

More than 300 Taiwanese have died during storms in the past three months - one of the deadliest typhoon seasons in the island's history.

Trains and planes traveling from the capital, Taipei, to southern cities were canceled. Schools and offices were closed in several cities in the region.
