Americans criticise Indonesia for
The American Ambassador Robert Gelbard has criticised Indonesian police for failing to act against hardline Islamic groups which have been threatening Americans.
The US State Department says it is allowing non-essential diplomats in Indonesia to leave and has advised all other Americans to consider quitting the country.
Mr Gelbard says the move has been taken due to an increasing deterioration in the security environment regarding Americans.
Earlier .. about a thousand Indonesians protested outside the heavily guarded US embassy in Jakarta, burning an effigy of President George W. Bush.
Several hardline Islamic groups have threatened to conduct "sweeps" for Americans and other foreigners from allied nations if the US attacks Afghanistan.
