US asks Cambodia for evidence over Phnom Penh terrorist attacks
US embassy officials in Phnom Penh say the FBI has formally asked the Cambodian government for any evidence linking a U.S. citizen to a series of attacks in the Cambodian capital last year.
At least seven people died in the incident...the worst violence in Phnom Penh since the 1997 coup.
Cambodian authorities have urged the United States to take action against Chhun Yasith, the US-based head of the anti-communist group, Cambodian Freedom Fighters, which has claimed responsibility for the attacks.
Cambodian courts tried Chhun Yasith in absentia in June, found him guilty of committing terrorist acts and belonging to an armed group, and sentenced him to life in prison.
